Nagpur: The controversial Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) from Hudkeshwar Police Station, Shyam Kanojiya, has accused South Nagpur MLA Mohan Mate, landlord Gajendra Mohadikar, and 7-8 of their workers of assaulting and abusing him. However, MLA Mohan Mate has outrightly denied these allegations.
According to PSI Kanojiya, “On 05/09/2024 at 9:40 am, I was leaving my home in Sarvashree Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Hudkeshwar Police Station, to visit the Nagpur Police Headquarters to submit crossed cheques as I had not received my salary. While riding my Activa scooter, around 10 to 20 meters from my home, my landlord Gajendra Mohadikar stopped me and asked when I would vacate the house. I replied that I would leave by the 15th. At that moment, MLA Mohan Mate got out of his car, grabbed my collar, and hurled abuses at me, saying, ‘Are you trying to act too smart?’ He then punched me on the chest four times. Afterward, I went near my house, called my son, Swapnil Kanojiya, and explained the situation to him. Shortly after, MLA Mohan Mate’s car arrived again. I stopped it, and then 8-10 of his workers, including Sunil Umredkar and several unknown individuals, assaulted me and left,” the PSI caimed.
He further said that his landlord, Gajendra Mohadikar, also assaulted him. “I filed a written complaint at Hudkeshwar Police Station but no action was taken as the police came under pressure from the MLA. The Second PI was telling me to vacate the house. I want action to be taken against the offenders,” stated Sub-Inspector Shyam Kanojiya.
When contacted, South Nagpur MLA Mohan Mate denied the allegations of any assault by him or his workers. He said all the accusations were false and claimed that on 05/09/2024, he was attending a ceremony for the inauguration of a cement road in the Sarvashree Nagar area. During the event, some local people, particularly 30-40 women, complained to him about the controversial PSI Shyam Kanojiya. According to the locals, they have been severely troubled by PSI Kanojiya’s actions.
It is reported that PSI Kanojiya, who has been living in a rented flat in Sarvashree Nagar, Gajalakshmi Apartment, Dighori, Nagpur, has not paid rent for the past eight months. He is allegedly involved in supporting illegal activities and has connections with those involved in such activities. There are many complaints against him from locals.
Regarding the events of 05/09/2024, MLA Mate said, “After the inauguration ceremony, when I was talking to Kanojiya’s landlord, Gajendra Mohadikar, some troubled locals pointed out that Kanojiya is the controversial PSI they were talking about. I tried to reason with him and advised him to change his ways, and then I left. All allegations made by PSI Kanojiya are false.”
According to sources, former Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had transferred PSI Shyam Kanojiya to headquarters due to multiple complaints against him. PSI Kanojiya had filed an appeal against this transfer with the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT), but his appeal was rejected. Currently, he is on medical leave.
When contacted, Hudkeshwar Police confirmed that PSI Kanojiya has filed a complaint, and an inquiry is underway under the guidance of senior officials. There have also been complaints filed against PSI Kanojiya, and an inquiry into those is ongoing as well. Preliminary investigations, including CCTV footage review, have revealed no evidence of any assault.
Now, everyone is waiting for the final outcome of the investigation.
