Freak mishaps: Two men killed after falling off running vehicles in Nagpur

Nagpur: In freak mishaps, two persons lost their lives after falling off running vehicles in separate incidents in Nagpur on Wednesday.

In the first incident, a youth died of head injuries and his friend was seriously injured when they fell off a pickup truck while returning after Ganesh visarjan in Koradi area Wednesday evening. The deceased, identified as Aakash Krishna Nishad (24), was a resident of Danteshwari Nagar slums, behind Orange City Hospital. Injured Tejas Santosh Nishad (17), also a resident of the same locality, has been admitted to Remedia Hospital, Koradi Road.

Aakash and Tejas were the part of a group that had installed a Ganesh idol at the Sheetla Mata Bal Ganeshotsav Mandal. The group carried the Ganesh idol for Visarjan in a Mahindra Bolero pickup truck (MH-31/FC7759) in the afternoon on Wednesday. After the Visarjan at Koradi Lake, they were returning in the vehicle when the accident occurred on the Smriti Nagar overbridge.

According to police, Gulshan Verma (22), the driver of the pickup truck, suddenly applied the brakes to avoid colliding with a motorcyclist. Aakash and Tejas, who were sitting in the back, were thrown from the vehicle when it halted abruptly. Both suffered serious injuries and were quickly taken to Remedia Hospital on Koradi Road. However, due to the severity of his head injuries, Aakash was later referred to Getwell Hospital, Dhantoli, where he succumbed on arrival.

After recording the statement of injured Tejas, Koradi Police registered a case under Sections 106(1), 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the pickup truck driver. Further investigations are underway.

Middle-aged man falls off running auto-rickshaw, dies

In another incident, a middle-aged man died of head injuries after falling off a running auto-rickshaw in the Kapil Nagar area on Wednesday afternoon. Angar Hussain Ali (50), a resident of New Kamptee near Dragon Palace Temple, had boarded a shared auto-rickshaw at Sitabuldi around 2 pm. The auto-rickshaw driver was reportedly carrying passengers beyond capacity. As the vehicle approached Metro Station at Sharda Chowk, Ali lost his balance and fell off the speeding auto-rickshaw.

Ali was rushed to Mayo Hospital but on the way, he succumbed to his injuries. Kapil Nagar Police initiated an investigation after registering an accidental death case.
