NMC’s new Heritage Committee notified; Anup Kumar is Chairman

Nagpur: Maharashtra Government has notified a new Heritage Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) with Anup Kumar, retired IAS Officer, as Chairman.

The reconstituted committee will have four new members including Convenor, INTACH, Local Chapter, Dr Leena Ramkrishnan, expert in Heritage Conservation, Dr R K Ingle, Structural Engineer and Superintendent, Archaeological Department. City Engineer, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, will act as Member Secretary.

The other members of the Heritage Committee include Joint Director, Town Planning. Shubha Johri, an expert in History, has been retained in the nine-member committee. The Committee has been constituted under Unified Development Control and Promotion Rules (UDCPR) on the proposal forwarded by NMC. The Committee is tasked with advising the Municipal Commissioner on aspects relating to conservation of buildings listed in the Heritage list finalised by NMC.

The members have powers to approve proposals for development of redevelopment and repairs of listed structures, precincts of historical, aesthetically architectural buildings. Also, they can decide on proposals for development of cultural and tourism significance projects within designated heritage structures relating to their modification.
