Encroachment crisis in Jaygurudev Nagar: Residents demand road restoration and basic infrastructure development

Nagpur– Residents of Jaygurudev Nagar, Manewada, are grappling with severe challenges due to ongoing encroachment on a key road, leading to significant inconvenience and safety concerns. Despite repeated complaints and a partial anti-encroachment drive, the issue remains unresolved, with authorities failing to take meaningful action.

The road, originally 40 feet wide, has been reduced to less than 10 feet due to illegal encroachments by holders. Although the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) initiated a partial anti-encroachment drive on May 3, 2024, the encroachers have reoccupied the road, causing further distress to the residents.

One of the primary issues raised is NIT’s technically flawed justification for halting further encroachment removal, citing concerns about damaging a sewerage line that residents claim is, in fact, located underground. The illegal construction of drainage tanks on the road by the encroachers has compounded the problem.

In addition to the encroachment, residents highlight the lack of basic infrastructure, including roads and drainage systems, despite paying development charges and holding RL-registered plots. The NIT, however, recently built a 30-foot cement road for the encroachers using MLA funds, neglecting the residents’ longstanding needs.

Residents have submitted numerous complaints to authorities, including the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Collector’s Office, Police Commissioner, Chief Minister’s Office, and even the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, yet no substantial action has been taken.

The residents are now urging immediate action to restore at least 20 feet of road width and ensure proper cement road development for those who have legally paid development charges.
