Nagpur: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 7-year old girl was killed when she came under the rear wheels of a mini truck after falling from the two-wheeler being ridden by her grandfather. The accident occurred on the road from Gopal Nagar to Padole Square, under the jurisdiction of the Pratap Nagar Police Station in Nagpur, on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Prutha Akant Pande, a resident of Pannase Layout, Gopal Nagar.
According to the police, Prutha was on her way to attend a dance class at around 5.30 pm. She was riding pillion on her grandfather’s two-wheeler. As they were passing through the area, an unidentified vehicle hit the two-wheeler from behind which caused the grandfather to lose balance. They fell onto the road, and Prutha came under the rear wheels of a mini-truck that was passing in the parallel direction. She sustained grievous head injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Pratap Nagar police have registered a case against the unidentified vehicle and have launched an investigation to identify the culprit.
The Second Capital of Maharashtra is witnessing a sharp increase in hit-and-run accidents, raising alarm among both citizens and the administration. Data provided by the Nagpur Police reveals a troubling trend: Nearly half of the accidents reported this year involve drivers fleeing the scene. Between January and August, 45% of the 829 accidents were classified as hit-and-runs, with 379 cases involving perpetrators speeding away without providing assistance to victims.
