Nagpur to see smooth traffic, no jams as NMC to implement AI powered IITMS system

Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation will soon implement the “Integrated Intelligent Traffic Management System” (IITMS), an advanced system powered by AI, to improve traffic flow and reduce jams in Nagpur. This system will also assist the police in taking action against traffic violators.

Additionally, the Pohra River Pollution Elimination Project will help restore the river to its former glory by eliminating pollution, according to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He made these remarks at the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony for various development projects, presided over by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

On Wednesday, various development projects of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation were inaugurated and their foundation stones laid by Fadnavis in the presence of Gadkari.

At the event held near Sahakar Nagar Bridge, the dignitaries present included MLCs Pravin Datke, Dr. Parinay Fuke, MLA Ashish Jaiswal, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, Additional Commissioner of the Integrated Tribal Development Project Ravindra Thakre, former MLA Ashish Deshmukh, Additional Commissioner of NMC Aanchal Goyal, Nagpur Smart City CEO Soumya Sharma-Chandak, Additional Commissioner of NMC Ajay Charthankar, Chief Engineer Leena Upadhye, Superintendent Engineers Manoj Talewar, Dr. Shweta Banerjee, Deputy Commissioners Milind Meshram, Dr. Ranjana Lade, and other officials and staff.

At the event, projects worth approximately Rs 1,300 crores were inaugurated and their foundation stones laid. During his speech, Deputy CM Fadnavis mentioned that various development projects by NMC would benefit citizens of South-West Nagpur and the city at large. A Rs 957 crore river pollution elimination project will be implemented to strengthen natural water resources. The Pohra River, which has turned into a drain, will be restored to its former state. This project will also resolve sewage issues in the southern sewage zone, helping in environmental conservation.

The IITMS system will upgrade all 164 automatic traffic controllers in the city. Once connected to the main server, the traffic control system will undergo significant changes, leading to stricter adherence to traffic rules and smoother traffic flow. A fund of Rs 197 crore has been approved for this system, Deputy CM Fadnavis informed.

He also expressed his delight in laying the foundation stone for the new Shrimant Raje Raghoji Bhonsle Nagar Bhavan, a Town Hall building. The new building will accommodate 250 Corporators at a time and will be equipped with modern facilities. Additionally, he mentioned that citizens will now have access to medical services closer to home.

In his address, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that within the next four months, the entire city would receive a 24×7 water supply. Nearly Rs 5,000 crore worth of projects are being initiated to make Nagpur clean, beautiful, and free from water, air, and noise pollution. These projects will provide improved facilities for citizens.

Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari provided details about various development works in his introductory speech. During the event, permanent land titles were distributed to slum dwellers in Rambagh, houses were allotted under the Shabari Tribal Housing Scheme, and mobile phones were distributed to ASHA workers.

The event was hosted by Manish Soni, while former Corporator Prakash Bhoyar proposed a vote of thanks. Former Mayors Maya Iwnate, Nanda Jichkar, Sandeep Joshi, former Corporator Avinash Thakre, and other notable figures were also present.

The dignitaries also laid the foundation stones for several projects, including the construction of the Late Balasaheb Thackeray Primary Education, Art and Culture Centre, the artificial immersion pond in Nagpur, and various construction and expansion projects for primary and secondary schools in Satnami GM Banatwala, Rani Durgavati Nagar, and Chichbhuwan.

Other projects include beautification and development of open spaces, dividers, and under-flyover spaces, installation of fountains and landscaping in various areas, and the inauguration of water tanks in Jaitala and Gayatri Nagar. New health facilities under the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Chandranagar and other locations were also inaugurated.
