Nagpur: Two fourteen-year-old boys of Nagpur drowned in Zilpi Lake, 25 kms away from Nagpur, during a casual trip with friends. The teenagers ventured into the lake to swim but drowned shortly after entering the waters, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Viresen Vithoba Gajbhiye, a resident of Plot No. 3, Juni Vasti, Dighori; and Gaurav Liladhar Burde, a resident of Ramna Maroti Nagar, Nandanvan. Both were Class 10 students. Gajbhiye’s father is a policeman with the State Reserve Police Force, while Burde’s father works at a private firm.
According to police, a group of nine teenagers, on three motorcycles, went to Zilpi Lake on Saturday morning for a holiday trip. After spending an hour on the banks of the lake, two of them returned home, while seven continued enjoying the lake. At around 10 am,Viresen and Gaurav decided to swim. Their friends tried to stop them, but they ignored the warnings and entered the waters. After swimming up to about five metres into the waters, they began to drown as the lake had a sudden drop-off and the depth increased rapidly. Their friends raised an alarm, but no one was there to help them.
One of the teenagers informed the police. Staff from Hingna Police Station, led by Senior PI Jitendra Bobde, rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies with the assistance of local fishermen. A police official stated that Gaurav was the only son of his parents and had three sisters. A case of accidental death was registered by Hingna police and the bodies were handed-over to the family after post-mortem.
