Nagpur: A 39-year-old businessman in Nagpur has become the victim of a sextortion attempt allegedly orchestrated by his childhood friend, Aniruddha Dahake. The businessman, who had earlier escaped a similar extortion attempt in 2022, was shocked to discover that his trusted friend was behind the new bid, according to police sources.
Dahake, who is now booked by Ajni police, had previously assisted the victim in lodging a complaint against an unidentified sextortionist two years ago. At that time, the businessman had received an obscene video of himself and extortion messages from someone claiming to be a woman named ‘Sonam Sharma.’ With Dahake’s help, the businessman approached the Cyber Police Station in Nagpur, which successfully put an end to the extortion threats.
However, two years later, the same video resurfaced, this time from a different number. The businessman again turned to Dahake for help, but his friend’s response was suspicious. Dahake reportedly became abusive and even threatened the businessman, prompting him to seek assistance from the Ajni police.
During their investigation, the police uncovered Dahake’s involvement in the extortion plot. He allegedly posed as an ‘unidentified sextortionist’ and used a SIM card registered to a female friend of his wife to carry out the threats. The woman, who had purchased the SIM, claimed it had been lost some time ago.
Despite the police’s findings, Dahake has yet to be arrested, and further investigations are underway to bring him to justice.
