Mumbai: The ruling Mahayuti has reached an agreement to contest 260 seats for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls and talks are on for the remaining 28, a report in a TV news channel said. The alliance comprises the BJP, the Shiv Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction.

According to another media report, out of 288 seats in Maharashtra, BJP will contest on 155 seats. Shiv Sena Shinde faction has got 78 seats. NCP Ajit Pawar faction has been given 55 seats.

The seat-sharing deal is likely to be finalised by Saturday night and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will come to Mumbai on Sunday and participate in a joint press conference, the report said.

According to the TV news channel, of the 260 Assembly seats, decks have been cleared for the BJP to contest on 142 seats, 66 for Shiv Sena and 52 for NCP. Talks on the remaining 28 Assembly seats are ongoing due to claims and counter-claims between the BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP.

Assembly election in Maharashtra will be held on November 20, while the counting of votes will take place on November 23.
