Nagpur: ‘Shura Me Vandile.’ The Nagpur police on Monday observed National Police Commemoration Day which is celebrated on October 21 every year.
In an impressive function held at Police Headquarters in Nagpur, officers and men from different police units paid homage to their colleagues who sacrificed their lives in line of duty. Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal and other officers placed wreaths at the memorial and offered tributes to the martyrs. Rich tributes are paid to the martyrs on this day.

Apart from Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal, the Joint CP Nisar Tambloli, Inspector General of Police Nagpur Range Dr Dilip Bhujbal, Addl Commissioner (Crime) Sanjay Patil, Addl Commissioner (South Zone) Shivajirao Rathod, Deputy Inspector General of Police Gadchiroli Range Sanjay Patil, DSP Nagpur Rural Harssh Poddar, Superintendent of Police Railways Akshay Shinde, SRPF Group IV Commandant Priyanka Narnavre, Superintendent of Police Nagpur Central Jail Vaibhav Aage, Deputy Commissioners of Police Lohit Matani, Niketan Kadam, Archit Chandak, Rashmita Rao, Mahak Swami, Rahul Maknikar, Rahul Madne, Shashikant Satav, Ashwini Patil, Shweta Khedkar, all Assistant Commissioners of Police, Senior Police Inspectors, retired Police Commissioner Bhushankumar Upadhyaya, other police personnel and citizens were present on the occasion who placed wreaths at the memorial and offered tributes to the martyrs.
The Annual Conference of Inspectors General of Police decided in January 1960 to mark October 21 as Police Commemoration Day in remembrance of these courageous police officers who gave their lives and to honour all police officers serving the country both domestically and abroad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the National Police Memorial in New Delhi to the country on this day in 2018. The memorial’s three primary components include a police museum that shows the development of Indian policing throughout history, a Wall of Valour that lists the names of martyred policemen, and a symbol of strength and resilience from the Basha attack scene. It serves as a place where people gather to honour both citizens and police officers.
A memorial was built at Hot Springs in Ladakh in memory of the martyred police personnel. The epitaph engraved on the memorial reads:
‘When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today.’
