According to the police, the complainant, Nutan, operates a beauty parlour in Chandramani Nagar area and considered Sachin Meshram a brother. She knew Sojal Ramesh Dumre (32), a resident of Mankapur. On August 17, Mankapur Police arrested Sojal in a drug smuggling case, and he is currently in jail.

On October 8, Sachin contacted Nutan on her mobile phone and summoned her to a hotel in the Pardi area. During their meeting, he claimed that the names of Shubham and three women had surfaced in the smuggling case. He stated that DCP Rahul Madne wanted to question her and informed her that her brother had also been arrested and was in police custody.

Later that night, Sachin visited Nutan’s house and asserted that a case would be filed against her as well. He claimed to have spoken to his superior, who demanded Rs 20 lakh to settle the matter. After discussing the situation with Sachin Mule, a clerk for a senior police officer, they agreed that the case could be settled for Rs 12 lakh. He took Nutan to meet Sachin Mule, and they convened at 6 am the following day.

Sachin Mule claimed he had spoken to his superior. Eventually, Nutan paid Rs 10 lakh to Sachin Meshram in instalments. On October 21, Meshram called her to the High Court premises to collect the remaining Rs 2 lakh. However, suspecting something was amiss, Nutan approached DCP Madne and recounted the incident. DCP Madne instructed Sadar Police to take action.

Led by Senior Police Inspector Manish Thakre, Sadar Police laid a trap and arrested Sachin red-handed while he was accepting the Rs 2 lakh in cash.
