Man Arrested in Nagpur with ₹7.93 Lakh Cash During Code of Conduct Enforcement

Nagpur: As election activities pick up pace in Maharashtra, the Nagpur police are maintaining strict vigilance following the implementation of the election code of conduct. Today, the Sitabuldi police arrested a man suspected of carrying unaccounted cash in connection with election-related activities during a routine enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.

According to police sources, on October 23, 2024, officers conducting routine checks at Maharajbagh Square spotted a suspicious individual on a motorcycle heading towards University Library Square. The man, identified as Umesh Ramsing Eidban (50), who runs a tea shop and resides at Plot No. 169, Manewada Venu Corner, Ajni Police Station area, was found in possession of ₹7.93 lakh in cash.

Sitabuldi police have confiscated the unaccounted money and initiated further investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, with the announcement of the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Elections, the code of conduct will remain in effect until the results are declared. During this period, the possibility of illegal activities such as alcohol production, transportation, and sales cannot be ruled out. To curb such activities, strict surveillance is being maintained by both the State Excise Department and the police. Special teams have been deployed to prevent illegal liquor smuggling from other states, conduct night patrols, inspect suspicious vehicles, and take action against illegal alcohol businesses. These teams are actively working to enforce the law.
