A major accident occurred early this morning on the Samruddhi Highway near the Karanja Toll Plaza in Washim district. At approximately 4 a.m., a speeding truck crashed into a stationary truck carrying chemical cans, causing a massive fire. Immediate action from the fire department helped prevent a larger disaster.
The fire erupted after the collision, as the chemical cans in the stationary truck caught fire. Fire brigades from the Karanja Municipal Council, Samruddhi Highway team, and Shivni Toll Plaza were dispatched to control the flames. Despite their quick response, the blaze led to the disruption of traffic toward Nagpur, which remains stalled.
According to reports, the stationary truck was undergoing repairs when the speeding truck hit it from behind, causing sparks that ignited the chemical-laden truck. Small explosions were heard as the chemicals reacted with the fire. Fortunately, the fire was brought under control, though two people sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Traffic on the highway is still affected, with efforts underway to clear the route. The situation remains under monitoring to prevent further hazards.
