Nagpur: Drawing a lesson from the unfortunate incident at Bandra Station, Central Railway has imposed restriction on sale of platform tickets at major stations, including Nagpur, to control rush and avoid any repeat of stampede that occurred in Mumbai till November 8.
A notification was issued promptly on Sunday itself saying the temporary measure is being taken during the festive season. The aim on part of railway officials is to allow only that much crowd on the platform that they can manage. During the festive season, maximum people want to head home, come what may. Also relatives and friends come to stations to see off those leaving for outstation.
Such a situation leads to overcrowding on platforms and to ensure smooth passenger movement within station premises, the restriction of sale of platform tickets is effective Immediately until November 8. Senior citizens and those with medical needs are exempted from these restrictions to ensure ease of travel. Passengers are requested to plan accordingly and adhere to the new regulations for a smooth and safe travel experience during the festive period.
In a stampede incident early on Sunday morning at Bandra Terminus, nine passengers were injured following overcrowding on Platform No. 1. The stampede occurred around 2:55 a.m. as passengers waited for Train No. 22921, Bandra-Gorakhpur Express, which was scheduled to depart at 5:10 a.m.
The nine injured passengers were admitted to a hospital. Among them, two were reported to be in critical condition, while the remaining seven are stable.
