At 8.2°C, Nagpur coldest in Vidarbha

Nagpur: With the mercury dipping to 8.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday, January 9, Nagpur emerged as the coldest city in Vidarbha, marking the lowest temperature of 2025 and the third-lowest of this winter season. The drop of 2°C within 24 hours added to the winter chill experienced by residents. Earlier, the coldest day of this winter was recorded at 7°C on December 15, 2024.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a slight relief from the cold snap, predicting an increase in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C starting Friday. This trend is expected to continue until January 14.

Several locations across Vidarbha reported single-digit minimum temperatures on Thursday:

• Brahmapuri: 8.5°C

• Wardha: 9.6°C

Other districts recorded temperatures hovering around 10°C:

• Akola: 10.3°C

• Amravati: 10.1°C

• Bhandara: 10.0°C

• Buldhana: 10.5°C

• Gadchiroli: 10.2°C

• Yavatmal: 10.5°C

Washim reported the warmest night in Vidarbha with a minimum temperature of 13.4°C.

Day temperatures see a dip

While night-time temperatures took centre stage, the maximum daytime temperatures across Vidarbha also witnessed a noticeable decline. For the first time in many days, most districts recorded daytime highs below 30°C.

• Nagpur: 28.1°C

• Gondia and Bhandara: 27.2°C (lowest maximum temperatures)

• Brahmapuri: 31.2°C (the only exception crossing 30°C)

Winter’s impact

The sharp dip in temperatures has brought a palpable chill to Nagpur and other parts of Vidarbha. The cold weather has been causing discomfort among citizens, with many opting to stay indoors or bundle up in warm clothing. The chill is expected to persist for the next few days before temperatures stabilize.
