Nagpur: In a bid to fast-track Nagpur’s infrastructure development, State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has issued strict directives to adhere to project deadlines and eliminate administrative bottlenecks. Chairing a high-level meeting at Mantralaya in Mumbai on Tuesday, the Minister emphasized that delays in development projects will not be tolerated, urging swift action to ensure timely completion.
Leading a comprehensive review of ongoing projects, Bawankule, who is also Maharashtra BJP President, brought together key officials from major civic bodies including the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The meeting was attended by top bureaucrats including Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development-1) Asim Gupta, Principal Secretary (Urban Development-2) KH Govindraj, NMRDA Chairman Sanjay Meena, and NMC Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary.
Bawankule directed appointment of a dedicated Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Mantralaya to oversee and expedite approvals for development proposals from Nagpur district. He instructed officials to raise funding concerns immediately through proper channels and ensure smooth processing of projects, particularly under the Smart City and AMRUT-2 schemes.
“Development delays disrupt daily life and hamper urban progress. Officials must ensure effective planning and timely execution,” Bawankule stated during the meeting.
Focus on pending NMC projects
The minister’s directives placed special emphasis on pending projects by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Bawankule urged authorities to clear roadblocks in critical infrastructure initiatives aimed at transforming the city’s urban landscape.
PWD projects under scrutiny
In a separate review of Public Works Department (PWD) projects in the Nagpur region, Bawankule reiterated the importance of expediting key proposals and resolving funding gaps. He was joined by Public Works Minister Shivrendra Singh Bhosale and senior officials in the meeting, where discussions centered on crucial projects like the construction of the MLA Hostel, IAS/IPS quarters, Nag Bhavan, and a new administrative building for the PWD.
Bawankule stressed that bureaucratic hurdles and resource constraints cannot be allowed to stall progress. “Clear timelines must be set, and accountability ensured to avoid stagnation in development work,” he added.
The review highlighted ongoing efforts to bolster residential and administrative infrastructure for government officials while enhancing public facilities across Nagpur. The Minister’s firm stance on timelines and accountability reflects the State’s commitment to accelerating urban development in one of Maharashtra’s most important cities.
