Nagpur: A 23-year old girl from Hajaripahad area under the jurisdiction of Gittikhadan Police Station in Nagpur committed suicide after her boyfriend refused to marry her. The police have booked the boyfriend who is working as Engineer at a Pune-based IT company on charges of abetment to suicide.
The accused has been identified as Darshan Vijay Bhajbhuje (25), a resident of Wagholi, District Pune.

According to the police, the complainant — a 58-year-old government employee and father of the deceased girl — lives in different cities across the State due to his job requirements. In 2019, while residing in Brahmapuri, Chandrapur district, love blossomed between the girl and Bhajbhuje while she was studying in Standard XII. The family, later, moved to Aurangabad, where she pursued her BA.
Last year, when the father learned about his daughter’s relationship, he granted permission for their marriage. However, the matter was not discussed further at home. On December 28, 2024, the girl informed her parents that she was going to Aurangabad for a job related matter. She returned on December 31, 2024 and appeared distressed but did not share her troubles with her family.
On January 7, 2025, she ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at home. While searching her belongings, the family discovered a diary where she expressed her emotional turmoil and detailed her strained relationship with Bhajbhuje. A scan of her mobile phone revealed chat conversations in which the two had frequent arguments. Bhajbhuje reportedly used abusive language and was unwilling to proceed with the marriage. Further investigation revealed that on December 28, 2024, instead of going to Aurangabad, the girl had travelled to Pune to meet Bhajbhuje. However, he refused to meet her, leaving her heartbroken.
