KKM ends on inspiring note, CM announces Rs 150 cr for facelift of Nagpur playgrounds

Nagpur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced Rs 150 crore for development of grounds in Nagpur as the 20-day long Khasdar Krida Mahotsav (KKM) concluded with a glittering ceremony at Yashwant Stadium on Sunday evening.

Replying to a request from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari regarding help from the State for development of grounds in Nagpur city, Fadnavis, in his speech, promised a hefty amount of Rs 150 crore for the same. Fadnavis was speaking during the concluding function of the Khasdar Krida Mahotsav, brainchild of Gadkari, who presided over the event.

Revenue Minister and Nagpur’s Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankulewas special guest on the occasion while Arjuna Award winner in para-archery Sheetal Devi and international cricketer Mohit Sharma graced the event. MLA PravinDatke, JCB India’s Jasmit Singh, KKM Convenor Sandip Joshi, Secretary DrPiyush Ambulkar, Sudhir Diwe, Dr Vikas Mahatme, Dr Milind Mane, Hambiraro Mohite and representatives of various sports associations were prominently present.

Continuing his speech, Fadnavis further said, “Through KKM, Gadkari has given a new dimension to development of sports in the region. The sanskritik and krida mahotsav have given a platform for city artists as well as sportspersons to showcase their talent.” Heeding to CM’s request, the gathering put on their mobile phone’s flashlight to thank Gadkari.

During his address, Gadkari said KKM was conceptualised to provide a platform and an opportunity to sportspersons. He promised to conduct more events on Vidarbha level and hoped that next year over one lakh players participate in the event.This year over 80,000 players, representing about 2900 teams took part in 58 sports. As many as 762 trophies, 12317 medals and cash of Rs 1.50 crore were distributed to players.

Sheetal and Mohit urged the players not to take loss very seriously and that they should enjoy the sport. On the occasion, Sunil Raisoni was honoured with Utkrusht Krida Sanghatak award. Maratha Lancers and Bharat Vyayam Shala were presented with Utkrusht Krida Sanghatna awards. Kiran Makode (badminton), Mohd Zeeshan (archery) and Vinay Upasani (divyang) won the Utkrusht Krida Prashikshak awards and 29 players, representing different sports, were felicitated with Krida Bhushan awards.

At the outset, Joshi made introductory remarks. RJ Amod conducted the proceedings while Ambulkar proposed a vote of thanks. While Sagar kept the audience busy with his songs early on, Sanam Band took over after the ceremony and made Nagpurians dance to their tunes.
