Nagpur: The State Revenue Minister and Guardian Minister of Nagpur district Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Wednesday ordered L & T Company to repair Nagpur’s non-functional CCTV cameras within the next 15 days and ensure their transfer to the government. A budget of Rs 10 crore has been allocated for the maintenance and repair of the project.
The project was developed by Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL). As the tenure of the Smart City project ends in March 2025, development is currently underway.
In a review meeting held at Bawankule’s office in Mumbai, it was revealed that out of 3,600 CCTV cameras installed in Nagpur city by L&T, approximately 2,000 are currently non-functional. L&T, however, reported that 1,100 of these cameras are temporarily out of service due to ongoing infrastructure works.
Bawankule emphasised that an IT team from the Police Commissioner’s office should inspect whether the repaired and reactivated cameras are working correctly. The CCTV network plays a crucial role in crime detection, including theft, murder, robbery, and accidents. Therefore, Bawankule made it clear that all non-functional cameras must be repaired and activated within 15 days.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Information Technology Minister Ashish Shelar, IT Department Principal Secretary Parag Jain Nainutia, NMC Commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari, and officiating CEO of Nagpur Smart City Project Anchal Goyal.
