Nagpur: Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) has opened its coffers to celebrate the team’s historic third Ranji Trophy title, rewarding players and support staff with hefty cash prizes. Vidarbha clinched the championship by securing a first-innings lead against Kerala in the final at VCA’s Jamtha Stadium on Sunday.
While talking to local media, VCA President Justice Vinay M. Deshpande (Retd.), former Judge of the Bombay High Court, lauded the players’ efforts. “The team has displayed remarkable consistency, winning nine out of ten matches. As a token of appreciation, we are awarding Rs 3 crore to the squad,” he announced.
Star performers have received special recognition. Left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey, who was the highest wicket-taker with 69 scalps and contributed 476 runs, earning him the ‘Man of the Tournament’ title, has been awarded Rs 25 lakh. Karun Nair, who notched up nine centuries—five in the Hazare Trophy and four in the Ranji Trophy—along with Yash Rathod, who amassed 960 runs this season, will receive Rs 10 lakh each.
The support staff has also been generously rewarded. Head coach Usman Ghani will take home Rs 15 lakh, while assistant coach Atul Ranade, strength and conditioning coach Yuvraj Singh Dasondhi, physio Dr. Nitin Khurana, and video analyst Amit Manikrao will receive Rs 5 lakh each. Masseur Rajsingh Chandel, side-arm thrower Yash Thorat, and team manager Jitendra Darbhe will be given Rs 2 lakh each.
“I firmly believe in giving—when you give, you receive more in return. This team has achieved something extraordinary, and they deserve every bit of this recognition,” Deshpande remarked, addressing the media after congratulating the squad in a spirited mid-ground huddle that ended in resounding applause.
