Nagpur: Civic authorities have begun demolishing illegal portions of the residence of Fahim Khan, a key accused in the recent Nagpur violence. The action was taken after Khan failed to remove the unauthorized structures despite prior notice from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
Khan, the city chief of the Minority Democratic Party (MDP), was among over 100 individuals arrested in connection with the violence that erupted in Nagpur on March 17. According to sources, the NMC had issued a notice citing multiple violations, including the lack of building plan approval for his house, which is registered in the name of his wife and located in Sanjay Bagh Colony, Yashodhara Nagar.
At the time of the demolition, Khan was in jail. The violence broke out following rumors that a ‘chadar’ with religious inscriptions had been burned during protests led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which had called for the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
