Nagpur: Citizens across the city are facing the music! The buzzing music of swarms and swarms of mosquitoes that have invaded the Orange City after the first rains of monsoon season. The rain and the humid condition have created a perfect, conducive breeding ground for the swarms of the tiny but deadly insect. The city is suffering in itchy misery. Citizens are spending sleepless nights as the buzzing music takes the nights by storm. All remedial devices – repellants and sprays – of branded companies are making a brisk sale. Hospitals and clinics too have been swarmed, not by mosquitoes but by patients with different fevers. Virtually no place has been left infested by the disease-breeding species turning the scenario grim.
With this awful situation, the risk of getting infected with dreaded diseases – malaria, dengue, chikangunya – has increased manifold and the hapless citizens are looking to the babus of Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Health Department of State Government for a relief.
The stagnant water and filthy surroundings are the main reasons for increase of mosquitoes. The directives of Guardian Minister and Mayor notwithstanding, the district administration has so far not initiated any measures to combat the mosquito menace worth the name.
