Nagpur: The bodies of all the eight people who drowned due a boat capsize in Nagpur’s Vena Lake have been found, said reports on Tuesday. The rescue operations are now over. On Monday, during the search operation, the bodies of five people were found while three were missing. The search operation went on overnight and the remaining three bodies were found. On Sunday evening, a small boat carrying 11 persons capsized in a lake in Nagpur, leaving eight youths dead.
The police said that the youths in the boat were trying to click a selfie. They were moving here and there, changing positions, and making poses, due to which the boat lost balance as it was small. The search operation to find the bodies was carried out by two National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams. Two youths and the boatman managed to swim safely and were helped by the local people in rescuing.
A source from the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) team said the situation was first analysed by their unit. They informed that it appeared that the bodies were stuck in the slush and underwater weeds in Vena Dam’s backwaters, reported TOI. The bodies of the victims did not move under the surface of the water since the water was mostly still behind the dam, he said.
