Second phase of polio drive in city tomorrow

The second phase of Pulse Polio drive conducted by Maharashtra State Government will be conducted on February 24. Children below the age of five will be administered the polio drop in all the health centres of the State. The first phase of the drive was conducted on January 20.

Nagpur Guardian Minister Shivajirao Moghe will inaugurate the drive at 8 am by administering a polio drop to a child. Mayor Anil Sole will preside over the programme. Deputy Mayor Sandip Jadhav, Standing Committee chief Dayashankar Tiwari, Ruling Party leader Pravin Datke, Leader of Opposition Vikas Thakre, and Municipal Commissioner Shyam Wardhane will grace the occasion.

The drive will be conducted the supervision of 10 NMC zonal medical officers, 30 co-ordinators medical officers and 10 health inspectors. 1,100 booths have been created for a smooth drive while 3030 workers and 215 supervisors have been deployed for the same. A transit team will administer the drop to children at orphanages, children’s of beggars at Railway Station, Bus Stop, Airport, Marriage halls, etc.

It is to be noted that no polio case has been registered in Nagpur since 2011 and the drive aims to eradicate pulse polio completely from this city. For this people’s participation is must. Thus, Dr S S Shende, Pulse Polio Officer has appealed to all the parents to bring their kids for polio drop.
