Heavy rainfall warning over weekend in Nagpur

Nagpur: As the rainfall appeared to be gaining strength over last two days in Nagpur, the city is set to experience further heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday. On Friday, following a heavy downpour the city received 15.8mm rainfall and it is likely to continue over the weekend. As per IMD forecast for August 27 and 28, the city is likely to experience heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm.

Though the heavy showers on Friday dampened the Ganeshotsav celebrations for a while, the overall rainfall situation has improved in the district. From being 24% deficient, the district is now 13% deficient. According to the met office, -0 to -20% is near normal rainfall and so the district has made up for the deficiency in the season.
Buldhana district received 12mm rainfall followed by Wardha at 9.2mm, Brahmapuri 4.2mm and Amravati 3mm. In other districts of Vidarbha, rainfall traces were reported.

Only Nagpur district and Buldhana (-12) have received normal rainfall this season while other districts in Vidarbha are still rain deficient. Gondia and Amravati at -38% are the most deficient districts in Vidarbha, followed by Chandrapur at -33%.

City recorded minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius on Friday, which is normal, while the maximum temperature was 32 degrees, one notches above normal.

The region experienced a dry spell for almost three weeks starting from the last week of July. Prior to Friday, heavy showers have lashed the city on three occasions this season. On June 27 the city recorded 117mm rainfall, 130mm on July 17 and the highest rainfall of the season (141.9mm) was recorded on August 18.

June received 216.6mm rainfall (which was recorded in almost the last 10 days of the month) whereas July received just 324.7mm. But the rainfall was not evenly spread. Most of it was concentrated in just few days at a stretch.
