Nagpur: Two notorious chain-snatchers involved in a series of incidents and a jeweller were arrested by a team of Crime Branch sleuths on Tuesday. Cops have so far cracked 11 cases of chain-snatching in Sonegaon, Bajaj Nagar, Pratapnagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Ganeshpeth, Kalamna, Dhantoli police jurisdictions. The accused goons used to dispose of the robbed valuables with the help of the jeweller.
The accused have been identified as Satish alias Sumit Shivcharan Samudre (41), resident of Babulkheda, Ajni; Sohan alias Sonu Jaynarayan Pande (32), a resident of Shvarpan Colony, Wardha and Diwakar Shankar Gurav (53), a resident of Sai Nagar, Wardha. The accused had recently committed three chain-snatchings in Sonegaon and Bajaj Nagar Police Station areas two weeks ago within span of an hour. Rattled by the spate of chain-snatching incidents, cops had started scanning records of notorious chain snatchers and identified the accused on the basis of CCTV footage recovered from the spot. As the accused Samudre was living in Amravati, a police team visited his place and received information that he was staying in a rented accommodation at Babulkheda area. Subsequently, cops picked him from the area on Monday.
The accused Samudre had sold the stolen booty to jeweller Diwakar Gurav. In a year, the accused had robbed gold ornaments worth Rs 13 lakh. Cops have recovered ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh from the jeweller. Samudre was in the book for two murders and 46 other offences along with 11 chain snatching this year. He was also wanted in a rape case reported at Imambada Police Station. The arrest was made by API Dnyaneshwar Bhedodkar, WPSI Mangala Mokashe and staff including Shatrughna Kadu, Shailesh Thawre, Suresh Hingnekar, Anil Dubey, Manish Bhosle, Atul Dawande, Sham Kadu, Firoz and Shariff.
