It almost seems like that Bollywood took forever to bring two actors, best in the business – Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor – together on screen. But now that they are together, we have hardly anything to complain. The two actors star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati, playing Rajput King Rawal Singh and Rajput queen Padmini. We saw a small glimpse of their romance in the trailer of the film, which released a few weeks ago. Now, a new song gives us a full fledged introduction to their royal romance.
Titled Ek Dil Ek Jaan, the song was released today and explores the moments that two royalties spend together. We are totally bowled over by the crackling chemistry that Deepika and Shahid share. Their eyes pretty much do the talking throughout the song and that is the beauty of it. Too bad, we know how this story is going to end, already.
Ek Dil Ek Jaan has been composed by man of the hour, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, himself. He has used a song with Sufiyana vibe to show the romance, which some might find troublesome. Shivam Pathak, who has composed music for Mary Kom, voices the song with a spellbinding quality. A M Turaz has penned down the beautiful lyrics.
The music video, of course being a part of a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, is visually magnificent. Royal courtyards, galleries, hallways give way to Shahid and Deepika to take us back to Padmavati’s era. Their costumes are on point throughout.
The song ends on a melancholic note, though. We see a teary eyed Deepika bid adieu to Shahid, ready with his war gear, as he heads off to a battle. We know where that is heading right.
