Nagpur: Even as fingers are being pointed at the slack action of cops in Krazy Castle tragedy in two students drowned, the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instead praised the efforts by the police and reposed faith in its action in the matter.

MLC Nago Ganar had raised the question in the legislative council, to which Fadnavis replied that there was no adequate evidence to register any cognisable offence in the matter and inquiry was under way.

Two youngsters, Akshay Bind and Sagar Sahashrabudhe, had drowned in the wave pool of the water park near Ambazari Lake on May 20. Bajaj Nagar police have so far registered accidental death in the case.

Snehal Motghare, who too had nearly drowned, was later revived at a hospital. Another woman too had survived but there is no reference in the police record.

The police move so far in the case is in contrast with its own actions taken in the past in other cases. In April, city police had promptly registered offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the managers and management of Empress City mall where three labourers had died while cleaning a tank. The Ganeshpeth police had also arrested the managers who were present at the site when the incident took place.

The finding of city police that the water park management is at no fault, supported by evidence, is also debatable as the district collector had issued an order for park’s closure within couple of hours of the drowning incident. The park management, which had another week or so for winding up its operation and handing over the place to Mahametro after the drowning incident, has extended solidarity and some monetary compensation to the affected families.
