Phadnavis said that DBT service was implemented at some of the tribal hostels in the State. He said that students had complained that they were served poor quality food in hostels and therefore they be provided with funds to arrange their own food. The State government therefore started the DBT.

He said that the Nashik to Pune protest march by tribal students had only 100 students when it started. But later on the number increased to around 250 students. The CM claimed that many ineligible students stayed in the hostels meant for tribal students.

During the protest march, police arrested some of the students to prevent any disturbance on part of the ineligible students. The arrested students were later released at different parts of the city, Phadnavis informed.
