Nagpur: 5 cricket bookies arrested from flat in Hanuman Nagar

Nagpur: Ajni police have raided a betting den being operated in a flat in Hanuman Nagar area and arrested 5 bookies. The citizens are baffled over such a racket being operated from the residential area.

Among the arrested accused include Shadaab Sheikh, 24, resident of Kamaal Chowk, Shoaib Nasim Khan, 25, resident of Somwari Quarters, Zakir Sheikh Jabbar Sheikh, 24, resident of Bada Tajbagh, Iftekhar Khan Mustafa Khan, 36 and Imtiaz Sheikh Khursheed Sheikh, 28, resident of Raut Nagar.

Police have worked on a tip off that few youths have been putting their stay at Sparsh Apartment’s Flat no.2 in Hanuman Nagar. These youths would reportedly stay there during the day time and leave at night.

All the five were allegedly betting on one-day match being played between South Africa and Sri Lanka when the cops raided their place. Articles worth Rs 2.20 lakh including a TV set, 4 laptops, 6 mobile and a set top box were seized from the spot. Police are trying to establish their connection with known bookies in Nagpur. A case under Gambling Act has been registered against all of them.
