Nagpur: Initiating strict action against the Post-Graduation students, who went out by locking six rooms of government boys’ hostel, Vice-Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) Dr Siddharth Vinayak Kane said that police action will be taken against those students and their degrees will also be withheld if they didn’t vacate the hostel rooms immediately.
It may be mentioned here that the university administration had ordered 199 PG students to vacate the hostel by July 15. But the students didn’t vacate the hostel and instead locked their rooms. They had also staged a demonstration at university campus on Amravati Road demanding to stay in the hostel. A few student organizations had also joined the agitation to pressurize the university to allow the students to stay in the hostel on humanitarian grounds looking at their financial conditions.
However, as per the university rules, a student can stay in the hostel only till completing one degree. After that, he or she has to vacate the hostel for new students. This is the reason that the VC didn’t pay heed the agitation and asked students to vacate the hostel. When the students learnt that they had no option than to vacate the hostel, some of the left by locking their rooms.
As per information, the senior students try to influence the management of the hostel. Many students continue to stay there even after completing the degree. It is said that some of the students work full-time but still stay in the hostel. Therefore, the university has taken a strict stand this time.
