The 12-year-old girl, who was found in immolated condition in an under construction building at Gondwana Nagar, Beltarodi Road, Manish Nagar on Friday, succumbed to her burn injuries on Saturday morning. The minor, who had suffered 90% burn injuries breathe her last on Saturday morning at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
The victim girl had left her home with a bag of clothes, gas stove and groceries on Thursday. She told police in her statement that her neighbour named Raja lured him and took her along with him. Though she was unable to give complete details, she told police that Raja’s friend poured kerosene on her and Raja set her ablaze in the wee hours of Friday. However, police could not make any arrest in the case since the victim changed her statement in the evening and said that she poured kerosene and set self ablaze. Police said, she was in dazed condition and that they were waiting for her to recover to be able to give a proper statement. Now, the police are left in a state of jeopardy and will have to dig the case deep to nab the culprits.
Police suspected molestation bid in the bid and are still waiting for the medical report to confirm the news.
It is to be noted that Sonegaon Police informed that the girl was missing since Thursday and her parents were searching for her. The incident came to light after a nearby resident Madhukar Uikey noticed flames from the building. He rushed to check when he heard the minor’s screams and found her leapt in flames. He alerted police who then rushed her to GMCH.
Police found few liquor bottles, obscene film CDs, cigarette packets and thinner bottles. The sources said that the girl turned 12 on Thursday and an empty cake box was also recovered from the spot. Police suspected that the victim might have come to celebrate her birthday with the accused. Sonegaon police have registered an offence under section 307 of the IPC against Raja on the basis of the victim’s earlier complaint. Further investigations are under way.
