State stands tall in UPSC result, IIT Bombay’s Kanishka Kataria tops in civil services exam

Srushti Deshmukh of Buldana is topper among women in the State

Nagpur: The auspicious occasion of Gudhi Padwa, New Year of Maharashtrians, saw the students of State standing tall in UPSC results. The result of Union Public Service Commission was declared on Saturday.

Five candidates of State figured in the list of first 50 candidates while Kanishka Kataria, a B Tech graduate from IIT Bombay topping the civil services final exam. Total 90 candidates from state have been selected. Kataria, who belongs to the SC Category, qualified the examination with Mathematics as his optional subject.

Akshat Jain and Junaid Ahmed have bagged the second and third rank.

Srushti Jayant Deshmukh, originally hailing from Buldana district in Vidarbha, is topper among women in the State and fifth in the country overall. Deshmukh has graduated with B.E.(Chemical Engineering) from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal.

The other successful candidates from State are Puja Priyadarshini-Mule (11), Trupti Dodmise (16), Vaibhav Gondvaine (25), Manish Avhale (33), Hemant Patil (39), Snehal Dhaigude (108), Nachiket Shelke (167), Manoj Mahajan (125), Dr Shrenik Lodha (133), Digvijay Patil (134), Amit Kale (212), Yogesh Patil (231), Navjivan Pawar (316), Rutuja Bankar (325), Sneha Gite (331), Abhaysingh Deshmukh (361), Pratik Khamatkar (377), Shubham Thakre (412), Parmanand Darade (615) and Macchindra Galve (640).

Of the top 25 candidates, 15 are men and 10 are women. 759 candidates, comprising 577 men and 182 women, have been recommended for appointment to Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’.

The top 25 candidates have graduated in subjects like Engineering; Sciences; Economics; Law; Mathematics; History; Political Science; Public administration and Commerce from premier institutions of the country such as IITs, NIT, NLU, BITS Pilani, DU, Mumbai University, Anna University, Pune University.

The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination was conducted in June. Though over 10 lakh candidates applied for this examination only about 5 lakh candidates appeared for it. Of these, 10,468 candidates qualified for the Written (Main) Examination which was held in September- October, 2018. A total of 1994 candidates had qualified for the Personality Test, held in February-March this year.

Optional subjects of the top 25 candidates in the examination ranged from Anthropology, Chemistry, Commerce & Accountancy, Geography, Law, Maths, History, Political Science and International Relations, Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology, and English Literature.
