Nagpur: An erroneous Google mapping on the part of NIC (National Informatics Centre) almost cost a student admission in a school under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. Despite the distance of school being 800 metres from the residence of the student it was shown as 10 kilometres. Subsequently, the concerned school refused to give admission to the student due to an alleged fault in the location map embedded on the application portal. However, the matter was resolved amicably at the intervention of a committee set up under RTE.
The matter pertains to Gayatri Vidya Mandir. According to the certificate of the school Principal, the student has been given admission. But the RTE Action Committee has raised the matter with National Children’s Rights Commission and Secretary of State Education Department. The committee has demanded streamlining of NIC working.
