TRAIN TRAUMA: Passengers feel great “comfort” travelling in “garbage bins”

The picture of Nagpur-Bhusawal Passenger Train and Nagpur-Amravati Passenger Train is “interesting one.” The seats are “handicapped but dangerous,” in other words, uncomfortable to passengers who travel a long distance. On the cleaning front, nothing is said is better. Dusts, waste material, half-eaten foods, insects, foul smell emanating from toilets, and most ugliest, broken doors of toilets, are the common scenes.

Nagpur News: “Welcome to Nagpur Railway Station.” Aaple Nagpur Railway Station La Swagat Aahe.” “Aapka Nagpur Railway Station Par Swagat Hain.” The Nagpur passengers, and even thousands of other passengers passing through Nagpur by various trains, must have heard the announcements dozens of times.

However, the welcome of passengers is in the words. The real welcome, however, is in different way. On one hand the Great Indian Railways boasts of safety and excellent facilities to passengers, on the other hand, the Central Raiway’s Nagpur Station displays a poor picture. The conditions of trains originating from Nagpur itself are a sort of torture. The seats are “handicapped but dangerous,” in other words, uncomfortable to passengers who travel a long distance. The passengers always have to keep in mind they could become victims of protruding nails, collapsing of seats, hazardous insects hidden in torn seats etc.

On the cleaning front, nothing is said is better. Dusts, waste material, half-eaten foods, insects, foul smell emanating from toilets, and most ugliest, broken doors of toilets, are the common scenes. One feels travelling in garbage bins. Many passengers, specifically, the women or young girls, feel it very awkward to approach the toilets because the coaches are flooded by unauthorised passengers who stand or seat bang on the approach way. Even if the women passengers anyhow succeed in reaching the toilets, the condition of toilets creates nausea, and shame, too. The doors of toilets are in so bad conditions, any woman would get embarrassed to enter the toilets.

The “facilities” concern to Nagpur-Bhusawal Passenger Train and Nagpur-Amravati Passenger Train. The narration of tell tale of the worst conditions was made by the member of DRUCC Praveen Dabli. When Dabli decided to personally apprise himself of the state of affairs, he was traumatized by witnessing the poor to very poor conditions of Nagpur-Amravati Passenger Train. This train leaves Nagpur at 8 am. A coach numbering 04433 was found continuously “cleaning” the coach floor by the water from toilet. When he went close the tap, to his utter shock, he founf no door at all to the toilet. Same conditions prevailed in other coaches also. Passengers were forced to use the “Best” toilet as they had paid for it.

Dabli has demanded investigation of some trains, apart from Nagpur-Bhusawal Passenger Train and Nagpur-Amravati Passenger Train by higher railway authorities. Passengers not only travel in Mail, Express, Doronto trains but also in Passenger Trains the Great Indian Railway itself started them.
