Eklavya men off to a flying start

Nagpur News : City’s Eklavya Krida Mandal men and Dr Shirodkar Krida Mandal, Mumbai women started their campaign on winning note in Mayor’s Cup All-India Kabaddi Tournament organised by Nagpur Municipal Corporation to celebrate its 150 years at Chitnis Park on Monday.

In the men’s section, Eklavya Krida Mandal defeated Mumbai Police. Mumbai police took three point lead (15-12) thanks to the raiders Kiran Mate and Vishal Talekar. However, after the break, Eklavya improved their game. Sumit Davre and Diljeesingh Thakur raided aggressively as a result Eklavya managed to win an inaugural encounter 26-24.

In the women’s section, Dr Shirodkar Krida Mandal defeated Nagpur’s Nehru Krida Mandal 25-15. Sujata Kalgankar and Snehal Salunke displayed all-round performance for the winning team. For Nehru Krida Mandal, Jitu Choudhary, Kirti Rokde gave apt reply but failed to avoid the defeat.

Earier mayor Prof. Anil Sole lighted the sports torch to inaugurate the tournament. MLAs Krishna Khopde, Vikas Kumbhare, deputy mayor Jaitunabi Ansari, NMC Standing Committee chairman Avinash Thakre, education committee chairperson Chetna Tank, Bandu Raut, leader of ruling party Pravin Datke, Gandhibagh Zone chairperson Rashmi Fadnavis, secretary of Nagpur District Kabaddi Association Sunil Chintalwar, observer of Kabaddi Deferation Jitu Thakur, Prof. Vivek Awasare, Sarika Nandurkar, and others were also present on the occasion.

Earlier the students of Chimasaheb Bhonsala Vyayam Shala and Race sports Club presented dandpatta and fencing demonstrations. In all 28 men and 18 women teams are participating in the tournament.
