All-India Kabaddi: Red Army, Palam reign supreme

Nagpur News : Red Army Delhi men and Palam Sports Club women emerged champions in Mayors Cup All-India Kabaddi Tournament which was organised by Nagpur Municipal Corporation at Chitnis Park on Thursday.

In an exciting men”s final, which resulted into an extra time, Red Army quelled a spirited challenge of Air India Mumbai 6-5. During the regulation time the score was equalised (23-23). Ajay Thakur of Air India was declared best all-rounder. Best raider prize went to Vinod Kumar of Red army and Birendra Kumar of Red Army was declared best catcher.

In the women”s section, Palam Sports Club defeated Ashoka, Kolkata 19-15.

Pinky Roy of Ashoka was adjudged best all-rounder. Bhavana (Palam) and Soniya (Palam) were declared best raider and catcher respectively.

Earlier in the men”s semi-finals, Red Army, Delhi defeated DMW Patiala 19-15 by four points. Rupesh, Suresh Kumar and Deepak played well for Red Army. In the second semi-final which was one-sided affair, Air India Mumbai drubbed UP Police gaziabad 30-7.
In the women”s section, Ashoka Club, Kolkata recorded one-sided 30-6 victory over Range Police, Nagpur.

Kavita Singh and Pinki Roy displayed match winning performance for Kolkata.

In an exciting encounter, Palam Sports, Delhi pipped Dr Shiodkar Club Mumbai 12-11 by just one point.

Former BJP national president Nitin Gadkari distributed the prizes to the winner and runners-up. Mayor Prof. Anil Sole, MLAs Sudhakar Deshmukh, Vikas Kumbhare, NMC Commissioner Shyam Wardhane, deputy mayor Jaitunavi Ansari, Standing Committee chairman Avinash Thakre and others were also present on the occasion.
