Corporator Parinay Fuke holds press meet to flay MSEDCL hiking power tariff 12 times in the last three year
Nagpur Today: The consumers of electricity in the city are irked by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) which had hiked the power tariff 12 times in the last three years. Sources say that the denizens of Maharashtra pay the highest cost for the power consumed in the entire country. Corporator Parinay Fuke alleged that this is only because of corruption and mismanagement. He added that there is no control of the regulatory body over the two main important factors contributing to the escalating cost of power consumption which are Power Production and Power Distribution. In order to safeguard the interest of the power consumers, a governing body named Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) was established in 2003. The main role of this MERC was to keep a check on and control the MAHAGENCO, MAHAVITRAN & MSETCL. However, this is not happening alleged Chairman of Jansangram Foundation and Jan Akrosh and Corporator Parinay Fuke. He said
that there is a need for the power consumers to get united in order to get the power supplying company to run the operations in such a manner that they are not fleeced or do not have to pay exorbitant charges for the power consumed. According to him, a mega state-level meeting with the representatives of power consumers and representatives of Industrial houses has been organized jointly at the Institute of Engineers on February 24, 2014.
This is the first time that a meeting of this type is held in the city.
According to him, the meeting will be attended by the Chairman of the Maharashtra Power Consumers Association Pratap Hogade and Chairman of the Power Cell of Vidarbha Industrial Association R B Goenka will be speaking on this occasion. President of Institute of Engineers Prakash Kulkarni will chair the meeting.
The organizers of this meeting include, Chairman of Jansangram Foundation Parinay Fuke and Ravi Waghmare, Secretary of Jan Akrosh Ravindra Kaskhedikar and Kishor Bhandakkar.
The others who are actively involved in this meeting include Buti Bori Manufacturers Association, Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat, MIDC Industries Association. The organizers have appealed to the power consumers to attend this meeting in large numbers to get their grievances redressed.
