VNIT holds ‘The Internet of Things’ workshop

Keeping its practice of conducting innovative workshops flying, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) organized a workshop on the theme ‘The Internet of Things’ in its premises recently.

The workshop covered every aspect from jQuery and AJAX to interfacing and Raspberry Pi. The workshop started with familiarizing the participants with the hardware and software provided to them. Using a motherboard and some software, they learnt to code basic HTML and Python programming languages. Participants also learnt how to code a programme that controlled LED light by using the amazing concept of cloud computing.

On the concluding day, participants used sensors that could detect an obstacle standing in its way and fashioned a programme to email the coder when a door was opened.

“It was a very interesting workshop. I learnt a lot from it. It’s something that one can experiment with at home as well, nothing too complicated,” said one enthusiastic participant.

What is commendable is that it made the participants aware of the power of Internet, improved their command over modes of connectivity and above all, how technology is used in rocket science.

The participants opined that without a doubt, they had a lot to take away from this very enlightening workshop.
