Govt taking all measures to curb crime rate in Maharashtra, asserts CM Fadnavis in Assembly

“Rise in crime and rise in criminals are both cause of concern for a progressive State of Maharashtra and needs to be dealt with on different scales,” said the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Vidhan Sabha (Assembly) on Friday. Fadnavis was speaking in the discussion over the issue of law and order situation in the State. The discussion was initiated by Congress member Vijay Vadettiwar under Rule 293.

The Chief Minister, who is also holding Home portfolio, further said that the Government issued directives to all police stations to register each and every complaint lodged by people. The Investigating Officers are being specially trained to solve the crimes and the guilty punished. As far as crimes against women are concerned, the Government has declared ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy. Every complaint of women would be registered and every police station will be provided with independent women cells and independent investigating officers. Moreover, in consultation with High Court, ‘Fast Track Courts’ (Designated) will be set up in more numbers to deal with crime against women and atrocities against Dalits. Similarly, rate of convictions will be increased, said Fadnavis.

“Government efforts will be directed towards bringing crime rate at zero level in the next five years. Comprehensive changes in ‘detection system’ are on the cards. The forensic labs in State will be made for effective. Every district will have ‘Prosecutor Panel’ and appropriate legal aid will be given. Those Investigating Officers do excellent job will be awarded with ‘Special Medals’ by the Government to spread a word that Government means business,” said the Chief Minister.

Fadnavis further said that a branch of ‘Cyber Emergency Response’ will be set up in State to curb increasing cyber crimes. Awareness on cyber crimes will also be created. Designated Officers will be appointed for implementation of MPID (Maharashtra Protection of Investors Deposits) Act to effectively curb increasing financial crimes. On the other hand, the property of guilty will be seized and auctioned to recover the money. The recovered money will be returned to the duped investors. Similarly, a centre for citizen facilitation will be started in Police Headquarters across the State. As far as ban on psychotropic substance ‘MD’ is concerned consultations with Central Government are going on, said the Chief Minister Fadnavis.
