Nagpur: Sitabuldi Police in Nagpur nabbed Rohit Ajaysingh Thakur (24), a wanted criminal who had been on the run since June after attempting to kill an eatery owner.

Rohit, a resident of Kanch Ghar, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, had been hiding out in Khalasi Line, Mohan Nagar, Sadar. The crime in question took place on June 13, when Rohit and his accomplice, Ammu alias Umesh Manoj Paisadaily (25), visited an eatery near Gate No. 2 of the railway station around 5:30 pm. After having snacks and tea, the duo demanded ‘hafta’ (protection money) from the eatery owner, Saddam Wakil Ahmed (33).

When Saddam refused to pay, Rohit and Ammu took out a knife from their moped (MH31/DT-4157) and brutally attacked him. Saddam, gravely injured, was rushed to the hospital. Following the attack, Sitabuldi Police registered a case under Sections 307 (Attempt to murder), 387 (Extortion), 294 (Obscene acts) and 34 (Acts done by two or more persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code against the two goons.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of officers from Sitabuldi Police, including Senior PI Asaram Chormale, PI Atul Mohankar and PSI Vinod Tiwari along with constabulary staff laid a trap to capture the fugitive. Rohit was finally nabbed, and the police also seized the moped and the knife used in the crime.
