The two SNDL (Spanco) technicians Kailash Chaure and Sagar Naik, who had accepted a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a complainant-consumer but had fled the spot on their motorcycle leaving the ACB sleuths red-faced on Tuesday, finally surrendered before the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Nagpur on Wednesday. They were arrested at around 16-55 hours and the bribe money has been seized from them.
It may be recalled, the ACB, Nagpur had booked to two technicians working with SNDL (Spanco) for demanding and accepting Rs 30,000 from a complainant-consumer. According to ACB, the accused technicians Kailash Choure and Sagar Naik, working at Spanco’s Tulsibagh Office, after checking electric meter of the complainant demanded Rs 40,000 for not registering a power theft offence against him. However, the complainant-consumer straightaway lodged a complaint with ACB in this connection. Accordingly, a trap was laid on June 3. Both the accused, however, settled the deal and demanded Rs 30,000 from the complainant. However, the ACB sleuths were taken aback when the accused, after accepting the bribe amount, fled the spot on a motorcycle before they could be caught red-handed.
The ACB has now registered an offence against the accused Kailash Choure and Sagar Naik under sections 7, 12 ,13 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and probing the matter further.
