Academic excellence: Nagpur’s institutions make strides in NIRF rankings

Nagpur: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur; Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research (DMIHER), Institute of Science, Kishoritai Bhoyar College of Pharmacy from Vidarbha have improved their position in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

The rankings were announced on Monday evening by the Government of India’s Ministry of Education. Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH), Pharmacy Department of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) maintained their rank. IIM, Nagpur, had earned 43rd rank in Management category last year while this year the institute secured 31st ranking.

DMIHER which stood 25th in the medical colleges category last year improved its rank to 23rd. In the colleges category Institute of Science bettered its rank from 82nd in 2023 to 64th this year. Kishoritai Bhoyar College of Pharmacy, Kamptee, too has worked hard to get 61st rank in Pharmacy colleges category. Last year it secured 68th rank.

The Architecture School of VNIT too secured 10th position this year as compared to 12th last year. Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) of Nagpur stood 2nd in Maharashtra and 15th in the country. This is a big achievement for any Government institute. DMIHER’s Dental College ranked 24th in the country. The Pharmacy Department of RTMNU maintained its ranking at 51. Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati stood 99th in Science colleges category.

In the University category, DMIHER ranked 42nd while RTMNU came in Rank Band 51-100. In the Engineering category G H Raisoni College of Engineering and YCCE colleges earned position in Rank Band of 151-200 while Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management (RCOEM) stood in the rank band of 201-300. Bhoyar college stood first in Vidarbha among all the private pharmacy colleges while Dadasaheb Balpande College of Pharmacy came in the rank band of 101-125.

In its first year, MNLU ranks 34th

In its first year of eligibility, Maharashtra National Law University at Nagpur secured 34th position in NIRF ranking which is a big achievement. Dr Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor told a local daily that till last year we were not eligible to compete. There are certain norms including the batch of the students, permanent campus etc. This year we became eligible and got 34th rank. Next year we will endeavour to improve the rank, he said.
