The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Nagpur Police has registered an offence against two employees of Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Tax Department for demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000. The ACB has arrested one employee on Tuesday while arrest of other remains to be effected.

According to ACB, the complainant Arun Ganpatrao Bhandirge (53), resident of Plot No. 170, Gandhinagar, and working in Doordarshan Center, Nagpur, in his complaint lodged with ACB on 21.2.2014, said that he submitted an application to Dharampeth Zone of NMC on 17.12.2013 for making payment of Property Tax towards his plot of land situated in Mouza Dabha. The two employees – Shashibhushan Shivdas Walde, Tax Collector and Ramesh Jagatnarayan Saini, Tax Assessment Inspector – both of Ward 68, Dabha Division, Dharampeth Zone-2 of NMC, informed Arun Bhandirge that they have assessed lesser tax towards his plot (Plot No. 3) and he will have to pay only Rs 43,000. Both Walde and Saini demanded Rs 5,000 from Arun Bhandirge for this favour. However, Arun Bhandirge, totally against paying the bribe amount for a legal work, instead filed a report with ACB against Walde and Saini in this connection.

Police subsequently arrested Ramesh Jagatnarayan Saini. However, arrest of Shashibhushan Shivdas Walde remains to be effected.
