Overflowing of Ambazari Lake could pose numerous hardships in residential areas along the Nag River. On September 23, 2023, incessant rainfall and cloudburst caused the overflowing of Ambazari Lake and Nag River leading to water gushing into residential and commercial areas in several parts of the city. The aggrieved residents subsequently filed a PIL in the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court blaming the disaster as ‘manmade.’ The bone of contention of the PIL was the construction of the Swami Vivekanand statue at the overflow point that led to the swollen Nag River and caused floods.
