Meeting of district committees in Nagpur on Jan 20

Ramesh Chennithala, the newly appointed in-charge for Maharashtra, has convened a meeting of all district Congress committees on January 20 at Nagpur. This is the third time that Congress is holding some important meeting at Nagpur within a period of three months. Congress is giving lot of importance to Nagpur, the most important city in Vidarbha Region.

Recently Nagpur had witnessed a maha rally addressed by senior leader Rahul Gandhi, AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge, in the city. Before this rally, in October, the party had convened all district committees’ meetings in the city. Reports said that Congress is giving a lot of focus on Vidarbha. Most parties are paying more attention to the constituencies in Mumbai and Western Maharashtra except Bharatiya Janata Party. Both the constituent parties of both alliances (Shiv Sena and NCP) are not paying much attention towards Vidarbha. Against this backdrop, Congress has hopes of getting some good leads in Vidarbha as it will have BJP as the only competitor.

Also the importance of Nagpur is that it has the headquarters of RSS and hence Congress is trying to put-up a show of strength in the former’s backyard. The venue of the Nagpur meeting has not been finalised yet.
