Nagpur: Stage is set for the commercial run of Metro Rail on a segment with the arrival of Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates. To be installed at the three priority stations of Airport South, New Airport and Khapri initially – the AFC gates would revolutionize travel in Nagpur. A demonstration of AFC gates was conducted today. The demonstration was held in the presence of Maha Metro MD Dr Brijesh Dixit at Metro House, Nagpur. These sleek gates have unique seamless design which would add to the aesthetic beauty of the Metro Rail stations.
The AFC gates would be installed at the entry and exit gates and have unique seamless design. These gates primarily accept smart cards and QR tickets. A passenger can purchase ticket or smart card through ticket operating machines placed in unpaid areas. The state-of-art technology used in issuing the QR Ticket / Mobile Ticket / Smart Card would revolutionize the way the people of Nagpur travel. The simplistic design of the system would help the patrons to commute hassle-free.
There would primarily be three types of QR Code tickets which would be dispensed at the Ticket Office Counter – Single Journey, Return Journey, and Group Tickets. This apart, group tickets can also be bought for a group of passengers travelling together. The tickets are also provided based on the category of passenger – adult, child, differently-abled and senior citizens. Another highlight is the fact that depending on the category, passengers can avail of discount on tickets.

Additionally, Nagpur Metro would also have loyalty programs which would reward frequent passengers. QR Tickets / Smart Cards can be purchased by patrons using cash, credit card, or debit card at the Ticket Office Terminal.
