Altercation during Ram temple procession sparks tension in Nagpur, five booked

Nagpur: Central Avenue in Nagpur witnessed heightened tensions on Monday during a Ram temple procession organized to commemorate the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The unrest erupted when a participant’s motorcycle, involved in the procession, brushed past a pedestrian, leading to a heated argument between members of two communities.

According to an official from Tehsil police station, the situation escalated when four to five friends of the pedestrian arrived at the scene and assaulted the motorcyclist. This altercation prompted supporters from both communities to gather, intensifying the confrontation.

To bring the situation under control, a contingent of police personnel and a Quick Response Team were dispatched to the area. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar also arrived on the scene, and officials successfully defused the tension after engaging with both sides. The Ram temple procession had commenced from Bajeria.

The Tehsil police station official stated that a case of rioting and assault was filed against five individuals. The timely intervention of law enforcement prevented further escalation of the conflict in the Central Avenue area.
