Nagpur News: The beautification work of the ‘theme park’ at Ambazari lake is waiting to see the light of the day, but, casual attitude of NMC has prolonged this wait. The then Commissioner Lokeshchandra had announced the beautification of Theme Park in the year 2004 and promised to complete the work by March, 2013. But, March is about to end and the work is not even about to start. Guardian Minister shivajirao Moghe inspected the area and declared an amount of Rs 300 crore for the beautification of Theme Park on the lines of Anand Sagar at Shegaon. A proposal was submitted in this regard in the year 2010 in NMC meeting during which a time till 2013 was asked to complete this work of beautification.
The proposal for renovation of Mini Train at Ambazari lake has been delayed for past three years. NMC is happy with only the development being shown on ‘papers’ rather than the actual development, which is nil. Today, Ambazari has become a lover’s point rather than a garden or park. The number of families coming to spend quality time in the park has reduced drastically. These families witness the open love birds hiding here and there in the shrub which is a matter of distress for them. Thus, the number of families visiting the park has decreased.
The NMC, which was planning to develop ‘Theme Park’ on the lines of Discovery of India with an investment of Rs 40 crore, has not even performed a proper bhoomipujan of the area to start the work. A few years earlier, Ambazari garden had many entertaining rides, swings etc., to attract Nagpurians and other tourists under the contract of Avinash Dorsatwar. But, NMC did not bother to acknowledge the work done by Dorsatwar and did not renew the contract with him and also rejected his plea to continue the contract.
It is to be mentioned that Haldiram Park is being constructed in front of Ambazari garden for which NMC officials turned Nelson’s eye and focused their attention in gaining some profit out of this new park. Few vigilant citizens demanded NMC to look after the development of Amazari Park instead of pocketing money out of other projects.
