Amidst a packed Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, Apple CEO Tim Cook finally took the wraps off the long-awaited iPhone 7 in San Francisco. In tune with speculations, the iPhone 7 indeed comes in two new design finishes – Jet Black and Black.
Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available in silver, gold, rose gold and the new black finish in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB models starting at Rs 60,000 and the new jet black finish will be offered exclusively on the 128GB and 256GB models from Apple Authorised Resellers and select carriers. The phone will be available in India beginning Friday, October 7.
The iPhone 7 features a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with wide colour gamut and a new home button which is now force-sensitive and comes with Taptic Engine.
The all-new iPhone 7 comes in two display sizes of 4.7 inches and larger at 5.5 inches for the iPhone 7 Plus version. Lack of the headphone jack also makes the device slimmer and water resistant.
In tune with popular speculation, Apple has ditched the analogue 3.5mm headphone jack for a lightning connector port that doubles up for charging. Along with the new port for headphones, Apple also introduced a new product – the Apple Airpods – wireless earphones that deliver an audio experience up to 24 hours of total listening. It is priced at $159.
The iPhone 7 is water and dust resistant, and its high-end version comes with the widely speculated dual rear camera module. The iPhone 7 Plus features two 12 megapixel sensors in the rear with two-tone flash and quad-LED. It is further boosted by 7 megapixel FaceTime HD camera. However, as reported earlier, the dual camera setup is restricted to the high-end premium model.
Apple has further boosted the audio experience by embedding stereo speakers in the new flagship device.
At its heart is the newest A10 Fusion chipset with 64-bit four-core CPU, which is claimed to be twice as fast as the A8 chipset. Along with the major updates, the Apple iPhone 7 will come powered by the iOS 10 and come in storage choices of 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB.
Apple is also offering a separate lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter in the box, aimed at helping the . The base model of iPhone 7 is priced at $649 for the iPhone 7 base model and $769 onwards for the iPhone 7 Plus base model. It will be up for pre-orders in the US starting September 9.
